Position/Job Title : Maintenance Mechanic
Grade : C1
Department : Engineering
Reports to : Mechanical-Maintenance Supervisor

Job Brief: The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing all mining machinery, vehicles, and equipment, ensuring optimal functionality to support the continuous operation of the mining site. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and auto electrical components, with a strong focus on safety and preventive maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance and Repair:

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on all mining machinery, vehicles, and equipment to prevent breakdowns and extend their operational life.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and auto-electrical issues on heavy mining equipment and vehicles.

Spare Parts Management:

Identify required spare parts and tools necessary for repairs and maintenance tasks.
Maintain an accurate inventory of spare parts and tools, ensuring timely procurement and availability.

Inspections and Diagnostics:

Conduct routine inspections of all mining machinery and vehicles to detect early signs of wear, damage, or failure.
Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and address issues promptly.

Compliance and Safety:

Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in compliance with company policies, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments to promote a safe working environment.

Documentation and Reporting:

Accurately document all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, time spent, and issues encountered.
Report any recurring mechanical issues, safety concerns, or potential improvements to the Mechanical-Maintenance Supervisor.

Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with other maintenance team members and departments to ensure seamless operations and minimize downtime.
Provide technical support and guidance to less experienced mechanics, Assistant Mechanics or apprentices.

Continuous Improvement:

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, contributing ideas for enhancing maintenance practices, equipment reliability, and overall efficiency.

Emergency Response:

Be on-call for emergency repairs and maintenance outside of regular working hours to ensure minimal disruption to mining operations.

Ad-hoc Duties:

Perform other duties as required by management, within the scope of the role.

Job Requirements:

Education and Certification:

A minimum of TVET Certificate Level III in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related field.
Professional certification in maintenance (e.g., Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician) is a plus.
Valid driver’s license,

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a maintenance role.
Proven experience in troubleshooting and repairing machinery

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Familiarity with diagnostic tools.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and service manuals.

Soft Skills:

Strong communication and teamwork skills.
High level of attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively, especially in a high-demand mining environment.

Physical Requirements:

Job Brief: The Mining Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and components within both underground and surface mining environments. This role involves ensuring all electrical systems are functioning optimally and in compliance with safety standards to support continuous mining operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation and Maintenance:

Install, repair, and maintain electrical control systems, wiring, and lighting in both underground and surface areas of the mine.
Set up and maintain distribution components, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of power throughout the sites.
Install and maintain safety systems, including emergency shutoffs, fire alarms, and communication systems.

Inspections and Troubleshooting:

Conduct regular inspections of electrical systems, including transformers, circuit breakers, motors, and other components, to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations.
Use diagnostic tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot and repair electrical issues, minimizing downtime and maintaining operational efficiency.

Compliance and Safety:

Job Requirements:

Experience:

Fit and repair various types of pipes, including those for water, air, and steam systems, ensuring they are securely connected and properly sealed.

This role encompasses operational leadership, staff supervision, safety, occupational health, environmental compliance, and community relations. The Mine Superintendent/Site Manager is the key point of contact between site operations and the company’s management, ensuring that all site activities align with the company’s strategic goals and regulatory requirements.

The Mine Superintendent/Site Manager is pivotal in driving operational success, maintaining safety and environmental standards and fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities:

Mine Superintendent/Site Manager has the following responsibilities and duties:

Operational Management:

Leading and overseeing day-to-day mining operations, including extraction, hauling, tramming, processing, and transportation activities.
Collaborate with technical services team to develop and implement operational plans and schedules to achieve production targets.
Monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance and repair activities to minimize downtime.
Requisition equipment necessary for the implementation of the mine plan.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mining from a recognized Institution or any related degree with 4 years’ experience in mining; or Advanced Diploma in Mining from a recognized Institution or any related degree with 5 years’ experience in mining.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Underground Mining operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
Strong knowledge of mining processes, techniques, equipment, and safety standards.
Proven experience in budget management, staff supervision, and operational planning.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to use English as the language of business.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing conditions.
Ability to work with Microsoft office (excel, word, PowerPoint).
