Purpose of the job

The Distressed Assets ocer reminds Customers of their overdue payments and do their best to negotiate payment from all loans from 0- 90 days up to amicable recovery or auction. This may mean negotiating a payment plan, or in extreme situations, the receivership process. Keeping track of the debtors to make sure that they are repaying what is owed, this is done over the phone or by mail, physical meeting, site visits, etc. If that person is no longer at that address or phone number, they may try to track them down using the web, post oce or other means.

Key Duties, Responsibilities and Accountability

  • To manage recovery action on debts owed in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Bank and the pre-court protocol, updating and maintaining appropriate systems to ensure that all recovery measures are based on correctly held data.
  • To engage with customers and liaising with relevant departments in the Bank using a variety of means to obtain information which can be used in the debt recovery process and ensure that debtors are advised of their position and the procedures that will be followed to recover the debt.
  • Engage with customers and reach a realistic and aordable repayment plan which is informed where possible by an accurate nancial statement.
  • To advise the Head of Distress Assets Department on issues aecting the debt recovery processes, both general terms and individual cases.
  • Taking ownership for the arrears actions and ensuring that the arrears are reduced whilst providing a high quality service to customers.
  • Assisting to liaise with all Judicial and Para-Judicial institutions in matters concerning the law by interpreting legal information provided by the regulator
  • Providing legal protection and risk management advice to both recovery and credit management especially on debt and recovery management.
  • Reviewing and advising the recovery team on legal implications of internal policies and procedures.
  • Reviewing and drafting loan contracts and letters of variation
  • Negotiating, reviewing and drafting documentation for Bank’s business transactions and preparing and advising on the necessary checklist to be adopted to ensure information is submitted on time.
  • Analyze and provide legal advice to the credit department on decision making so that the legal risk might be mitigated.
  • Countercheck all les before the disbursement and conrm securities and sanction conditions are fully met.
  • Prepare or review Bank or credit correspondences before being issued to the customer or external institution whether public or private.
  • Providing Reports to the Head of Destress Assets Department.
  • Initiate receivership process and make eective follow up of the auction process.
  • Advise recovery team and nancial department on distribution of auction proceeds.
  • Receive and approve the 1st level of invoices from external service provider for oered services with recovery purposes and forward the same to the line manager for countersigning.
  • Do any other activities as may be required by the line manager.

Qualification, Experience, Skills and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Law or related fields.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in Destress Assets/Loan recovery processes.
  • Excellent Communication Skills, Both Verbal and Written.
  • Ability to meet targets set.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Strong Problem-Solving Skills.
  • Sound judgement.
  • Team Player.
  • Excellent knowledge to interpret legal instruments.
  • Analytical capacity.
  • Capacity to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines.
  • Advisory and decision making skills.
  • Excellent in Word, Power point and Excel.
